Compliance should be intelligent, not manual

SafeGenics is building the Compliance Intelligence Platform — a graph-powered system that makes environmental health and safety compliance explainable, auditable, and automated for every regulated facility.
Origin

We started with a question no one could answer quickly

“Why does this facility need to file Tier II for sulfuric acid?” It sounds simple. But answering it requires tracing from the product on the shelf, to the SDS, to the ingredient concentrations, to the facility-level aggregate quantities, to the EPCRA threshold for that specific chemical, to the jurisdiction-specific rules that may override federal defaults.
That chain of reasoning takes an experienced EHS professional 30–45 minutes. For a facility with dozens of chemicals, it takes weeks. For a multi-site organization, it’s a perpetual fire drill every winter as the March 1 deadline approaches.
We realized the problem isn’t a lack of data — it’s that compliance obligations emerge from relationships between data. Between chemicals and thresholds. Between SDSs and ingredients. Between facilities and jurisdictions. Between regulations and deadlines. Traditional databases store data in disconnected tables. The relationships live only in the EHS manager’s head.
SafeGenics was founded to put those relationships into a graph — and make compliance intelligent, not just automated.
The founding insight

Compliance obligations are graph problems, not spreadsheet problems

A single Tier II obligation connects five entity types across three regulatory layers. No spreadsheet can model this. A knowledge graph can — natively, with full explainability.

Values

What drives us

These aren’t aspirational posters on a wall. They’re the principles that shape every engineering decision, every product feature, and every customer interaction.

🎯

Accuracy first

Compliance is binary — you’re compliant or you’re not. Every threshold calculation, every obligation detection, every filing must be correct. We don’t ship features that sacrifice precision for speed.

🔍

Explainability over automation

Automation that can’t explain itself is a liability in regulated industries. When SafeGenics says “file Tier II,” it shows exactly why — which SDS, which ingredient, which threshold, which jurisdiction. Auditors don’t accept black boxes.

🧠

Deep domain knowledge

We hire chemists, environmental engineers, and compliance professionals alongside software engineers. Domain expertise isn’t something you can abstract away — it’s embedded in our graph model, our threshold logic, and our regulatory engines.

🏗️

Architecture matters

The Compliance Intelligence Graph isn’t a feature — it’s a fundamentally different way to model regulatory reality. We chose a harder path because relational databases can’t natively represent the multi-hop relationships that define compliance.

🛡️

Earn trust through transparency

Regulated industries don’t adopt software on faith. We publish our security certifications, explain our architecture, provide evidence chains for every obligation, and make our reasoning auditable at the graph node level.

Ship what matters

EHS teams are under-resourced and over-regulated. Every feature we build must measurably reduce their burden — not add another dashboard to check. If a feature doesn’t save time or prevent a violation, we don’t build it.
Our approach

How we're different

Legacy EHS platforms digitize existing processes. SafeGenics reimagines what’s possible when compliance data lives in a knowledge graph.

CAS-centric identity resolution

Legacy tools track products. SafeGenics decomposes mixtures to their chemical ingredients using SDS Section 3 data, resolves each to a canonical CAS number, and aggregates at the ingredient level. This is how you catch the sulfuric acid in forklift batteries that pushes you over the EHS threshold.

Real-time obligation detection

Legacy tools help you fill out forms once a year. SafeGenics recalculates obligations on every inventory change — when a shipment arrives, when an SDS is updated, when a regulation changes. You know your compliance status today, not just at year-end.

Multi-hop compliance answers

Ask “Why must this facility file?” and the graph traverses SDS → Chemical → Inventory → Threshold → Obligation in milliseconds. Traditional databases require complex JOIN chains that break down at scale. The graph makes this traversal native.

Proactive change management

When EPA publishes a new rule in the Federal Register, SafeGenics simulates the impact on your specific facilities — which thresholds would change, which obligations would be created or removed — before the rule takes effect. You’re never caught off guard.

Journey

Building compliance intelligence

2023 — Q1

Founded

SafeGenics is founded on the insight that compliance obligations are graph problems. Work begins on the 9-entity knowledge graph model.

2023 — Q3

Graph architecture validated

Core graph model with Facility, Chemical, SDS, Threshold, Regulation, Jurisdiction, Inventory, Obligation, and Incident entities proven against real compliance data.

2024 — Q1

First Tier II filings through the platform

Manufacturing customers submit Tier II reports generated entirely from the Compliance Intelligence Graph. SDS parsing and ingredient decomposition go live.

2024 — Q3

Compliance Intelligence module launches

GraphRAG-powered natural language queries go live. EHS teams can ask "Why must this facility file?" and get cited, explainable answers grounded in the graph.

2025 — Q1

50-state Tier II filing coverage

State-specific rule engines now handle portal differences, fee structures, and supplemental requirements for every US jurisdiction.

2025 — Q4

Regulatory drift detection

Automated Federal Register monitoring with facility-specific impact simulation. First alert: November 2025 EPA EPCRA hazard category expansion (90 FR 51187).

2026 — Now

Expanding across regulated industries

SafeGenics serves manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, retail, universities, utilities, government, and warehousing. Incident management, SDS & HazCom, and chemical inventory modules in production.
